Space Discovery: Proklaim – “Babylon”
Hey Space Travellers,
You know him already, it is our beloved Proklaim, back at it again with a new amazing single called Babylon. We covered this incredible artist from Namibia many times and for a reason. Babylon is the proof that this artist is unstoppable.
The instrumentation is extremely well crafted, as always. This play a lot with the bassline, making this great dub tune, that will sound amazing on rave sound system. We are already imagining ourselves dancing to this song.
The snaps and break parts make the track extremely danceable. However, as with many of his tunes, Proklaim is able to do catchy tracks while talking about very deep topics. Proklaim has different styles that make his flow very distinguishable and peculiar, he plays with mainly two of his styles, rap parts in the verse (incredibly solid parts, top-notch level), and his reggae-style signature during the chorus, with a very peculiar reverb and texture that make the chorus extremely anthemic.
Together vocals and rhythm create an incredible groove, and Proklaim charismatic voice seems to invite the listener to get loose, but also follow his guidance. A spiritual message at times, rooted to the daily jungle we all leave in. Indeed the track has some specific parts where a woman is screaming. You probably recognize this part now, and that’s a pivotal moment for the track and maybe the core of it all. As the artist states: “the song contains a sample from a Jamaican news report on how city developments were affecting low-income neighbourhoods by
disrupting their infrastructure…residents and one lady, in particular, had an emotional complaint I found moving…I added it to the
song”.
As always, we have an incredible new tune to listen to and get lost in. Anyway, we have another review for this gentleman coming, so stay tuned, as Proklaim never stops producing great tunes, not even during the summer.
