Where do ideas for songs come from? Tell us more about your creative process and how you make music as a band.
It really does depend on the song! Some songs start with a chorus, some with one lyric, and some with a musical idea.
Our song ideas are always born from what we’re listening to at the time. We all have very broad musical pallets that overlap but the common ground around Little Victories is in the “indie” space. Bands and artists like The 1975, Bon Iver, Ben Howard, Phoebe Bridgers and The Japanese House massively influenced these first songs. We always throw other elements from our wider influences into the pot too, so elements of rock, pop, hiphop, folk, classical and world music always find their way into our music too!
To be honest because our living locations are still so scattered, we have to adapt our way of writing around beautiful obstacles like bad internet, whatsapp voice notes and work schedules – probably around 90% of our stuff is written like this! It’s really like a slow motion game of ping pong! For example, it’ll start from Marcus, go to Sam, back to Marcus, to Nay, back to Sam etc.
For those that haven’t heard of you yet, how would you best describe your sound?
We’ve been described as a neo Fleetwood Mac, which we joke about but can definitely get behind! Maybe if Fleetwood Mac and The 1975 had a secret love child… that could be us?
Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
Yes! We have so much instore for you guys and we can’t wait to share it all. We can’t say too much at the moment but do keep your eyes peeled for our EP release in early 2022. There’s plenty more songs in the pipeline for sure!
What do you want to express with your music? What do you think the listener should get from it?
We try to make all of our songs resonate with our audience by writing from our own personal experiences that people can relate to. We cover topics like mental health/self love/relationships and generally being understood. We really want to reinforce a sense of unity with one another as everyone experiences these feelings, and use this common ground to rebuild a connection that we feel has been culturally lost recently.
This is a question we ask any artist every time: If you had a time machine, in which era would you travel and which kind of music would you bring with you in the past?
Sam: I would love to go back to 1969 to experience Hendrix at Woodstock, and just witness Led Zeppelin’s self-titled blow people’s minds! I’d probably bring 101 FM by Lil Simz with me to show everyone how far music has come.
Marcus: I have a huge love for 90s Midwest emo and the indie rock around that scene. I would definitely bring a band like American Football into the 80s and watch what would happen! Can you imagine a Cure style ‘Never Meant’ with a big gated snare?!
Nay: I’d probably have a laugh and take electro swing back to the roaring 20s just to see how they’d react to Caravan Palace or Parov Stelar and modern instrumentations!
What is the last thing you would like to say to our Space Travellers?
Thanks so much for your support <3
